“Human Rights and Establishment of Civil Society in the Countries of South Caucasus” – October 21-24, 2005, Gudauri, Georgia, Conference, organized by Yerevan Press Club, “Yeni Nesil” Journalists Union of Azerbaijan and “Black Sea Press” Association (Georgia) with the support of Eurasia Foundation Cooperation Program in South Caucasus. Participants (27 in number) represented media and non-governmental organizations of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Main issues discussed: human rights and establishment of civil society in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia; the role of NGOs and media in establishment of civil society, the possibility of their cooperation to protect human rights; results of cross country reviews of Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian press; formation of “enemy image” in the press and possibilities for overcoming it.

“Coverage of International Programs in Armenian Media” – September 23-25, 2005, Tsaghkadzor, Armenia, seminar, organized by Yerevan Press Club with the assistance of Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Participants (30 in number) represented media, NGOs, journalistic associations, state structures of Armenia and international missions accredited in the country. Main subjects discussed: prospects of the EU European Neighborhood Policy, its influence on democratic reforms in Armenia; present and future of the Millennium Challenge Account program of the US Government, issues of ensuring the transparency of the program; UN Millennium Development Goals program; the media coverage of subjects of public significance.

“Rights and Accountability of the Media” – June 20-22, 2005, Sevan, Armenia, Seminar, organized by Yerevan Press Club with the support of Council of Europe. The participants (30 in number) represented media, journalistic associations of Armenia, CoE experts. The main issues discussed: media accountability systems; Armenian media community on the path of self-regulation; coverage of internal and external conflicts by Armenian media; freedom of expression and responsibility of journalists in the situations of crisis according to European standards; the balance between freedom of expression and right to privacy in “Von Hannover v. Germany” and “Tammer v. Estonia” cases.

“Karabagh Issue and Its Media Coverage” – May 6-8, 2005, Tsakhkadzor, Armenia, seminar, organized by Yerevan Press Club and Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The participants (32 in number) represented media, journalistic associations and non-governmental organizations of Armenia. The main issues discussed: political processes in South Caucasus countries and Mountainous Karabagh conflict; current situation and prospects for settlement of Karabagh conflict according to Armenian and Azerbaijani experts; peculiarities of negotiation process and their impact on coverage; publications of Armenian, Azerbaijani and Turkish media on Karabagh issue (findings of media monitoring); public attitude towards the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani problem; promotion of enemy image, stereotypes and cliches in Armenian and Azerbaijani press (findings of a press research in both countries).

“European Neighborhood Policy and Its Coverage in the Armenian Press” – April 1-3, 2005, Seminar, organized by Yerevan Press Club and Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The participants (35 in number) represented media, journalistic associations and non-governmental organizations of Armenia. The main issues discussed: goals of the European Neighborhood Policy and Armenia’s involvement; problems of South Caucasus region in the context of new geopolitical tendencies; coverage of Turkey’s relations with Armenia and European Union in the foreign press; coverage of Euro-integration process in the Armenian press; promotion of European standards of freedom of expression and information in Armenia.
