On February 24 at the session of National Commission on Television and Radio a decision was passed to reject the reconciliation agreement, offered by “Dar 21", "ARMENAKOB", "TV 5", "Yerevan" and "EV" TV companies at the hearings at the RA Commercial Court on February 21 (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, February 15-21, 2003). As it has been reported, the suit of the five TV companies versus the National Commission was filed on January 30 due to the refusal of the latter to return the applications for the broadcast licensing competition to the TV companies for further revision (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, January 25-31, 2003).
The National Commission motivated its rejection of the reconciliation by a wish to protect the legal interests of other competition participants – "A1+" and "Noyan Tapan" TV companies, which are not involved in the agreement offered by the five TV channels.
On February 28 at the session of the Commercial Court the attorney representing the interests of five TV companies filed an additional demand: to annul the decision of the National Commission, according to which the applications for the five UHFs in Yerevan must be reviewed on January 31 (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, January 18-24, 2003). Should the demand be secured, the competition announced on January 23 will in fact be abolished and postponed indefinitely. Hence, the possibility for "A1+" and "Noyan Tapan" to return on air is postponed, too.
The next court session is scheduled for March 14.
