NATIONAL COMMISSION ON TELEVISION AND RADIO WILL BE CONTROLLING THE AIR

On January 14-15 the National Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia
hosted consulting meetings with the heads the local and nationwide broadcasters.
The purpose of the meetings was to familiarize the broadcasters with the legal
provisions, regulating the electronic media coverage of the presidential election
campaign, and the presentation of the planned activities of the National Commission
during the elections. The Chairman of the National Commission Grigor Amalian
informed that this body will be observing the whole airtime. To control the
coverage of the election campaign by the regional and city broadcasters, task
forces will be set up on the sites. Besides, communication will be maintained
with the pre-election offices of all candidates running for presidency and the
complaints received from them will be considered. The Commission will have a
hot telephone line operating 24 hours a day so that anyone, who thinks a broadcaster
has violated the legislation, could call and report the facts of violations.
According to the National Commission Chairman, sanctions will be applied to
those who will make infringements of the law.
