MEETINGS UNDER THE PROJECT “STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACY THROUGH FREE EXPRESSION IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS"

On October 2 in the Moscow suburb of Zvenigorod a regional meeting took place. It was organized under the project “Strengthening Democracy Through Free Expression in the South Caucasus" realized with the financial support of Open Society Institute and Foreign Office of the United Kingdom. The project is implemented by the British organization “Article 19” and a number of South Caucasus journalistic associations: Yerevan Press Club, “Yeni Nesil” Journalist Union of Azerbaijan, Liberty Institute (Georgia), Stepanakert Press Club, Media Club (Abkhazia), “Journalists for Human Rights” organization (South Ossetia).

On October 3-4, under the same project a workshop “Media Monitoring During Elections” was held where representatives of South Caucasus media and NGOs, “Article 19”, Open Society Institute, experts from Russia and Ukraine took part. The Armenian and Azerbaijani participants informed the colleagues from the region, still having no experience in conducting similar research, about methodologies of their monitorings on the media coverage of election campaigns and strategies for using monitoring results. Creative and organizational aspects of similar media research were discussed in working groups moderated by Russian and Ukrainian experts.
