On November 20 the court of primary jurisdiction of Center and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan announced the ruling on the suit of the former Editor of “Iravunk” newspaper (the party organ “Constitutional Right” Union, CRU) Hovhannes Galajian and the former Director of the newspaper Gegham Grigorian. The plaintiffs demanded to be restored in their positions and to be paid a compensation for induced idleness.
As it has been reported, the party conflict at the CRU conference in September 2006 between its leaders, the NA Deputy Hrant Khachatrian and Haik Babukhanian and the litigation that ensued broke down not only the party but also the editorial staff of the party organ. Hrant Khachatrian, who had restored his rights as a Chairman of CRU Board in court, dismissed the newspaper management, and on February 23 “Iravunk” was published with a new Chief Editor, Piruza Meliksetian. On their behalf, Haik Babukhanian, Hovhannes Galajian and Gegham Grigorian on February 27 launched an alternative publication “Iskakan Iravunk” (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, on February 23 – March 1, 2007). At the same time Hovhannes Galajian and Gegham Grigorian filed a suit with the court. The suit is fully secured. According to the ruling of the court of primary jurisdiction, Hovhannes Galajian and Gegham Grigorian must be restored in their positions and be paid a compensation for every month of induced idleness equal to their average monthly salaries.
