HEAD OF “ASPAREZ” TO PAY AN ADMINISTRATIVE FINE

On June 10 the RA Administrative Court read the ruling on the dispute between
the Gyumri Police Department and the Board Chairman of “Asparez” Journalist’s
Club of Gyumri Levon Barseghian. As it has been reported, on March 2 during
the rally in Gyumri, Levon Barseghian was detained and taken to the police department,
where he was held for over 5 hours. Further on, the Gyumri Police Department
addressed the court demanding to hold the journalist accountable on Article
182 of the RA Code of Administrative Offenses (“Intentional Failure to Obey
a Legal Order or a Demand of a Police Officer or a Military Serviceman”). The
hearing of the case started on April 11 (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter,
April 11-17, 2008).

At the session of June 10 the Court found the journalist guilty and committed
him to paying a fine of 50,000 AMD (around $ 160).
