Since June 1 the Armenian TV channel “ARMENHAKOB”, whose test broadcasting started in January 2001, will be permanently on air. The TV company was established last year on the basis of a culture center existing in Yerevan since 1996 and founded by composer Hakob Jambazian. The latter became a co-founder of the new TV company. Its other co-founder is TV journalist Armen Amirian. (YPC reference: Armen Amirian was born in 1967 in Yerevan. He graduated from the Yerevan State Pedagogical Institute. Since 1980 Mr. Amirian worked at the Armenian television. From 1997 till present Mr. Amirian was appointed the Executive Director of the National Radio of Armenia and since 2000 he has been the Executive Director of “Armenhakob” TV company.)
As Armen Amirian told the Yerevan Press Club, so far the TV company will broadcast from 17.00 till 24.00 on weekdays, and from 11:00 till midnight on weekends. “At first we will air 4 programs produced by the company, two of them being weekly and the other two – daily”, Mr. Amirian said. “We also plan to launch foreign newscasts starting from September 1. Our main purpose is to establish family-oriented television.”
