On December 17, the RA President Robert Kocharian signed a decree appointing Stepan Poghosian a member of the Council of the Public Television and Radio of Armenia (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, January 20-26, 2001). Stepan Poghosian, in charge of the State TV and Radio Committee of Armenia for many years under the Soviet rule, took the vacancy, which appeared in the Council after the untimely death of journalist and publicist Valery Aydinyan.
According to the transitional provisions of the RA Law "On Television and Radio” and so as to ensure rotation, the members of the Council of the first summon, formed on January 19, 2001, are appointed for varying terms of service. The term of service of Stepan Poghosian expires on January 19, 2005.
