On April 13, during his visit to Yerevan, the Lithuanian Foreign Minster, the Chairman of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers Antanas Valionis had a meeting with the heads of the Armenian opposition media and Yerevan Press Club at the Journalist House.
The primary focus of the meeting was on discontinuation of the air of “A1+” TV company and media legislation. The Armenian participants emphasized the increasing pressure of the authorities on the independent media, the insufficient effectiveness of the Council of Europe interventions into the process.
Mr. Valionis noted that the issues of complying with the European Convention of Human Rights and the media-related legislation reforms are constantly attended to by the Council of Europe. The Chairman of the Committee of Ministers also asked the Armenian journalists to actively inform the appropriate CE structures about their problems.
