THE GOVERNMENT APPROVED DRAFT LAW ON "MASS COMMUNICATION"

On November 7 at the session of the RA Government the draft law "On Mass Communication" was approved. As it has been reported, the previous version of this document, developed by the RA Ministry of Justice and approved by the Government on February 7 this year, caused a wave of protests of the media and professional associations, received a negative assessment from local and international experts, also from the Council of Europe (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter in late January, February and March, 2002). On March 27 the Ministry of Justice introduced the new revised edition of the draft law “On Mass Communication” (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, March 23-29, 2002).

As Deputy Minister of Justice Ashot Abovian, who presented the draft on the session of November 7, noted, before the document is submitted to the National Assembly of the country, it will be introduced for the discussion of the journalistic community.
