On June 9 at the court of primary jurisdiction of Center and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan proceedings on the suit of “Investigative Journalists” public organization and its Chairman Edik Baghdasarian versus the Yerevan municipality started. As it has been reported, Edik Baghdasarian demanded to be given access to the resolutions of the city administration, passed in 1997-2003, on the constructions made in the green zone around the building of the National Opera and Ballet Theater. Despite the numerous appeals to the municipality, these documents, necessary for the completion of the journalistic investigation, had not been provided to the plaintiff (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, April 16-22, 2004).
At the court session the representative of the municipality admitted that the city administration was “late” with the answer to the “Investigative Journalists” and asked to clarify which information is necessary. The plaintiff specified that he is interested to know how many cafes and restaurants are located in the zone of the National Opera and Ballet Theater, who are their owners, what resolutions constituted the grounds for allocated them the land, and submitted the enquiry in written form. The court gives the respondent time to prepare the information requested.
The next session is scheduled for June 21.
