On February 28, the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression presented the results of monitoring court cases related to defamation in media. According to the CPFE, following the decriminalization of libel and insult in May 2010, the Armenian courts submitted into consideration 71 lawsuits on the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation, where the media were involved as respondents or as a third party. In 2010, 17 such cases were instituted, in 2011 – 37, and in 2012 – 17.
