On October 18, in Yerevan, Media Initiatives Center (the former Internews Armenia) presented its new handbook “Media Literacy” and an electronic game “Media Battle”, developed in cooperation with experts from the National Institute of Education within the framework of “Alternative Media Resources” project, supported by the USAID.
The “Media Literacy” handbook has been approved by the RA Ministry of Education and Science as a teaching aid and is designed for high school teachers. The ten thematic sections in the handbook, referring to theory and practice, introduce readers to the world of journalism and its basics. The handbook comes with a multimedia tool in the form of the electronic “Media Battle” game on two DVDs.
The “Media Literacy” course has been piloted in a number of schools in Armenia since September 2012, with dozens of teachers trained on it. In the current school year media literacy will be taught to high-school students by five teachers, selected in a competition.
