DATE FOR THE BROADCAST LICENSING COMPETITION DETERMINED

On January 23 at the session of the National Commission on Television and Radio a decision on holding broadcast licensing competition for five UHFs in Yerevan was passed. As it has been reported, on November 18, 2002, the RA Commercial Court secured the petition of "Noyan Tapan" and suspended the broadcast licensing competition until the end of the court proceedings on the suit of "Noyan Tapan" versus the National Commission on Television and Radio (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, November 16-22, 2002).

On January 31 the National Commission will consider the applications for five Yerevan frequencies. Frequencies 27, 31, 39, 51 are claimed by "A1+" TV company as well as by their current "owners": "Dar 21" (rebroadcasting Russian "MuzTV" channel), "ARMENAKOB", "TV 5" (rebroadcasting Russian MTV) and "Yerevan" respectively. The 58th frequency is claimed by "EV" TV company that currently rebroadcasts CNN on it, as well as "Noyan Tapan" LLC.

The results of the competition will become known on February 4.
