In late October results of several journalistic competitions, held by public
and professional organizations of Armenia and Russia, were announced.
On October 28 in Yerevan monetary prizes were awarded to the winners of anti-tobacco
competition, organized by Armenian Alliance of Public Health (this includes
the Armenian Association of Public Health, Armenian Public Health Union and
American University of Armenia). The competition winners were the following
authors: Anahit Haytayan (observer of “Hayastani Hanrapetutiun” daily), Valeria
Zakharian (observer of “Novoe Vremya” newspaper) and Liana Stepanian (for the
piece published in “Respublika Armenia” newspaper). “Hayastani Hanrapetutiun”
and “Azg” dailies received diplomas for consistent coverage of anti-tobacco
subjects. Encouraging monetary prizes were granted to Geghetsik Martirosian
(correspondent of “Hyusisain Aliq” Vanadzor radio) and Aghavni Harutiunian (correspondent
of “Azg”).
On October 26 in Yerevan ceremony of awarding the winners of competition on
covering Armenian-Russian relations in Armenian media was held. The competition
was administered by the South Caucasus Branch of Caucasus Democracy Institute.
The awardees were Vahagn Antonian (correspondent of “Armenpress” news agency
in Lori region), Ruben Margarian (observer of “Golos Armenii” newspaper), Artem
Yerkanian (observer of PanArmenian.net portal), Tatevik Shagunian (correspondent
of “Arminfo” news agency) and Ruben Grzdelian (“Arminfo”). The five winners
were awarded a trip to Moscow from October 31 to November 5. Five more journalists
– Aris Ghazinian, Ara Meliksetian (both are observers of “Golos Armenii”), Lilith
Galstian (correspondent of “Yerkir” newspaper), Tatul Hakobian (observer of
“Azg”) and Susanna Margarian (for an article published in “Azg”) – received
monetary prizes.
Finally, on October 25 in Moscow the award ceremony of “Despite-2005” International
Competition for Print Journalists was held. The competition, established by
“Novaya Gazeta” newspaper, “Yabloko” Russian Democratic Party and Alliance of
Regional Media Heads, bears the name of Chief Editor of “Sovetskaya Kalmykia”
newspaper Larisa Yudina since 1999. Larisa Yudina was killed in June 1998. Awards
of the competition are granted to the representatives of the “fourth estate”,
who perform their professional duty despite all obstacles. Among the awardees
for this year Lilith Arutchian was named, an author of articles, published in
“Golos Armenii”.
