On December 7 at Marriot Armenia Hotel in Yerevan the working meeting on preparing
report “Monitoring Democratic Reforms in Armenia” was held. The study is administered
by Yerevan Press Club under the homonymous project supported by Open Society
Institute Human Rights and Governance Grants Program. The monitoring involves
a number of public organizations, membering in Partnership for Open Society
initiative.
The structure and benchmarks of the research are based on the indicators of
Millennium Challenge Account implemented in Armenia, making up ”Ruling Justly”
block. Hence, the six sections of the report will present the situation in Armenia
in 2006 along the following dimensions: civil liberties; the right to vote and
accountability; good governance; political rights; rule of law, justice, police;
control over corruption. It is expected that “Monitoring of Democratic Reforms
in Armenia” report will be published in early 2007.
A similar research was administered in 2005, containing analysis of Armenia’s
compliance with its commitments in human rights and democracy since its full-fledged
membership in the Council of Europe (January 25, 2001) and till December 15,
2005, after the amended RA Constitution came into force. This monitoring report
