On June 19 the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights on the case of
“A1+” TV company was commented on by the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists.
CPJ’s Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova urged the Armenian
authorities “to view this ruling as a signal to grant a license to the station”:
“By granting a license to ‘A1+’, newly elected President Serge Sargsian will
demonstrate his commitment to press freedom in the country.” As it has been
reported, in the judgment of the European Court, published on June 17, 2008,
the refusals of the National Commission on Television and Radio to grant “A1+”
a broadcast license were recognized to be a violation of Article 10 of the European
Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (see details in YPC Weekly
