“ASPAREZ” CALLS UPON THE REALISTIC COVERAGE OF ISSUES OF REGIONS, CONVULSED BY SPITAK EARTHQUAKE

On December 4 “Asparez” Journalists’ Club of Gyumri made a statement, calling
upon the media representatives to follow the public interests, while covering
the issues of those regions, convulsed by Spitak Earthquake of December 7, 1988.
The statement is dedicated to the 21st year since the tragic events. “Asparez”
urged the journalists and media heads first of all to raise in their materials
the acute problems of inhabitants of the convulsed regions and “to be more realistic,
than optimistic”. Particularly, “Asparez” noted that after 21 years the earthquake
area is not rehabilitated yet, more than 4 thousand families still live in stop-gaps,
and more than 3.5 thousand – are homeless. In other words, the promises of state
officials, voiced during these years, to solve the accommodation problem and
restore the industry are not fulfilled up till now, “Asparez” statement stressed.
