On July 20-22, in "Gandglik" International Tourist Centre, located not far from Baku, a seminar titled "Technology of TV Dialog Between Conflicting Parties" was held. The Seminar was organized by "Yeni Nesil" Journalists Union of Azerbaijan with the assistance of the Council of Europe and the President Executive Office of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan, Armenian and Georgian journalists gathered at the meeting discussed, in particular, the role of TV journalism in the creation, development and settlement of conflicts, the possible ways to proceed from the information antagonism to dialog; the issues of organizing, hosting TV dialogs between conflicting parties and their content; the participation of a third party in such programs and its influence on the TV dialog.
A certain starting point for the new forms of cooperation among the media of South Caucasus is the " Front Line. TV Bridge Yerevan-Baku" project, implemented by Internews missions in Armenia and Azerbaijan (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, May 5-11, 2001). During the Seminar several of these 24 TV bridges were demonstrated, and the results of the surveys conducted among the viewers of "Front Line" in Armenia and Azerbaijan were presented. The meeting participants thoroughly analyzed and summarized the experience of such regional cooperation and were unanimous in admitting the necessity of its continuation and development in future.
