The RA Court of Appeals, on January 16, left unchanged the decision of the court of primary jurisdiction on the case of journalist Shushanik Abrahamian-Hairapetian versus “Armenpress” news agency. This former “Armenpress” employee challenged the decision of the court of primary jurisdiction of Center and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan, which refused to satisfy her claim about the restoration in the job previously occupied and compensation of the salary for the unintended idleness (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, November 10-16, 2001). The suit was grounded on the fact that, as Ms. Abrahamian-Hairapetian maintains, her dismissal notice (on the basis of contract expiration) was illegal. It was dated June 29, 2001; however, it was given to the journalist only on July 12. Till that time she went on with her duties (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, September 22-28, 2001).
As Yerevan Press Club was told by Ms. Abrahamian-Hairapetian, the Court of Appeals has not as yet given her the court decision, allegedly, because it is not ready (legally, the decision is to be handed within three days after it is taken). The journalist states that she will keep fighting for her rights.
