JOURNALISM CONFERENCE IN YSU

On June 5-7 a conference called “Journalism in Armenia: Contemporary Issues and Challenges” was held in Yerevan State University. The event was organized by the Yerevan State University and the Middlesex Community College (Massachusetts, USA), with the assistance of the Bureau on Education and Culture of the U.S. Department of State. The conference participants – representatives of media, professional associations, journalism faculty members from Armenia and USA, YSU students discussed the issues of freedom of speech, press and information, introduction of new information technologies, the role of broadcasting media and problems faced by the representatives of the "fourth estate" during journalistic investigations. Armenian and American journalists and media experts delivered speeches on those subjects.

A special workshop in YSU has been organized after the conference for the high school youth, during which Armenian and US journalists delivered introductory lectures about print and electronic media.
