FOI ANNUAL AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

On September 28 at “Regineh” hotel in Yerevan the ceremony of awarding the winners of Freedom of Information Center’s annual competition took place. The event was dedicated to the International Right to Know Day (established in 2002) and organized with the assistance of USAID and the World Bank Yerevan Office.

The most open institution in 2010 was named to be the Municipality of Goris, Syunik region.

The website of RA Government www.egov.am was recognized as the best official site in granting information.

In 2010 the civil initiative “We are the owners of this city” was the most efficient in using its right to information.

The journalist, who was the most consistent in covering the freedom of information issues, was announced Aram Zaqarian, correspondent of “Aravot” daily, while “Right to Tell”, the program of the Second Armenian TV Channel, covered the abovementioned issues the most actively.

In 2010 Hakob Tovmasian was named as the most active citizen to exercise his right to access of information.

By tradition all persons and organizations, listed above, were conferred prizes of a gold key – as a symbol of openness.

The rusty lock, a symbol of secrecy, was awarded to the Municipality of Stepanavan (Lori region) – for not fulfilling the requirements of the RA Law “On Freedom of Information”.
