HEARING OF THE CASE TO PROTECT THE HONOR AND DIGNITY OF THE CPA FIRST SECRETARY STOPPED

On May 20 the court of primary jurisdiction of Center and Nork-Marash community of Yerevan made a decision of stopping the hearing of the suit of the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia Vladimir Darbinian versus "Chorrord Ishkhanutyun" newspaper to protect honor and dignity. The decision was grounded on the absence of the plaintiff from the session, and thus, the case is actually considered dismissed. The hearings scheduled for May 7 were postponed because of the absence from Yerevan of Lilit Hovhannisian, the author of the articles the suit was prompted by. As it has been reported, the CPA leader demanded to oblige the newspaper to refute two publications – "The Party With a Brain of Bird" (March 4) and "The List of Serge and the March 8 of Valod" (March 25), and suspend the activities of "Chorrord Ishkhanutyun" (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, April 25 – May 1, 2003).
