ABOUT SIX THOUSAND CITIZENS SUPPORTED THE DEMAND TO ALLOCATE A FREE FREQUENCY

On May 3 at the Journalists Union of Armenia a press-conference of the representatives of a number of journalistic and human rights organizations of the country was held. The press-conference summed up the results of the signature gathering campaign, supporting the demand to the RA Ministry of Transportation and Communication, the National Commission on Television and Radio and other competent bodies to allocate a vacant frequency for a public broadcast licensing competition. As it has been reported, the signature gathering started on April 2 within the actions to support “A1+” on the third anniversary since the TV company lost air (April 2, 2002) due to the license refusal by the National Commission on Television and Radio (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, April 8-14, 2005).

At the meeting with journalists it was announced that 5,750 signatures were made by citizens, who supported the demand above.

As YPC was informed by “A1+” Director Mesrop Movsesian, on the same day, May 3, the petition to allocate a vacant frequency with the signatures gathered was sent to the RA Government.
