MDI MEDIA DECISION MAKERS CONFERENCE FOR THE SOUTH CAUCASUS

On July 29-31 in Vienna the meeting of South Caucasus Reporting Diversity Network
meeting and the Media Decision Makers Conference for the South Caucasus were
held. The two events were organized by London-based Media Diversity Institute
(MDI) under a three-year project “Minority Empowerment and Media Development
in South Caucasus”, implemented with the financial assistance of the European
Community and the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The partners
of the MDI South Caucasus project, including Yerevan Press Club and Internews
Armenia, discussed the program implementation course and further prospects of
the cooperation. At the media decision-makers conference for the South Caucasus,
moderated by Journalism Professor at City University in London John Owen and
MDI Director Milica Pesic, presentations were made by Senior Adviser of the
Vienna-based OSCE Office on Freedom of the Media Alexander Ivanko, film director/scriptwriter
Goran Revic (UK), researcher of School of Journalism of Cardiff University Sadie
Clifford, researcher of the Institute for Information Law at University of Amsterdam
Tarlach McGonagle, the Chief Editor of “The Leicester Mercury” newspaper Nick
Carter (UK), President of “DiversiPro Inc.” training and consulting company
Hamlin Grange (Canada), media consultant Ann Olson (USA) and MDI Programme Director
Lloyd Donaldson, the BBC Executive Producer Paresh Solanki. The conference participants
were addressed by Roving Ambassador to the Countries of South Caucasus and Central
Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria Heidemaria Gurer.
