MEDIA AS A RESOURCE FOR FREE DISPLAY OF CIVIL WILL

On July 9-10 at Congress Hotel in Yerevan a seminar “Media and Elections: Resource
for Free Expression of Citizens Will” was held. The event was organized by Yerevan
Press Club with the support of Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation-Armenia
and the OSI East-East Program.

The presentation of the Chairman of the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression
Ashot Melikian was dealing with the problems of media self-regulation, in particular,
during election campaigns. The Chief Editor of Ukrainian “Telecritica” web-site
and journal Natalia Ligacheva spoke about the role of media in political processes
in Ukraine. The YPC Expert Mesrop Harutiunian told about the legislative framework
of media work at election times. The presentation of the YPC Weekly Newsletter
Editor Elina Poghosbekian was dealing with the coverage of electoral process
by Armenian media.
