INCIDENT WITH THE FREE-LANCE CORRESPONDENT OF “ZHAMANAK-YEREVAN”

As “Zhamanak-Yerevan” daily informed on May 21, 2008, in the afternoon of May
18 the free-lance correspondent of “Zhamanak-Yerevan” Robert Sargsian was detained
and taken to the police department of Masis city (Ararat region). Robert Sargsian
was taking pictures of the protest action in the city by his mobile phone, when
he was approached by police officers, who put him into the car by force and
took to the police department. According to “Zhamanak-Yerevan” Executive Editor
Aydin Morikian, the police officers took the journalist’s mobile phone, deleted
the pictures, he was beaten on the way and at the police department. In about
an hour Robert Sargsian was moved to the police department of the city of Artashat
and released only in the evening, at about 22.00.
