On July 15 RA Criminal
Court of Appeal rescinded its ruling of June 15, 2009 on the case of
free lance journalist Gagik Shamshian and applied the amnesty,
announced on June 19, 2009. As it has been reported, the Criminal Court
of Appeal upheld the sentence, passed by court of general jurisdiction
of Kentron and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan on April 17, 2009,
which imposed Gagik Shamshian to a fine in the amount of 350,000 AMD
(about $ 950) for disrespect to court (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, June
12-18, 2009).
Earlier, on July 3, the
amnesty was
also expanded on correspondent of “Chorrord Ishkhanutiun” newspaper
Gohar Vezirian, accused to a similar penalty for the same crime on May
14, 2009 by court of general jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash
communities of Yerevan (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, July 3-9, 2009).
