COURT OF APPEAL TOOK OVER THE PROCEEDINGS ON THE CASE OF SHUSHANIK ABRAHAMIAN-HAIRAPETIAN VERSUS “ARMENPRESS” NEWS AGENCY

On December 6 the RA Court of Appeal started the proceedings on the case of journalist Shushanik Abrahamian-Hairapetian versus “Armenpress” news agency. The former “Armenpress” employee addressed to the second-level judicial body of the country to challenge the decision of the court of primary jurisdiction. On November 2 the court of primary jurisdiction of Center and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan refused to satisfy the suit of Shushanik Abrahamian-Hairapetian about her restoration in the job previously occupied and compensation of the salary for the unintended idleness, considering the actions of the respondent to be in line with the Law (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, November 10-16, 2001).

The suit was grounded on the fact the dismissal notice (on the basis of contract expiration) of Shushanik Abrahamian-Hairapetian was illegal. It was dated June 29, 2001; however, it was given to the journalist only on July 12. Till that time she went on with her duties (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, September 22-28, 2001).

The proceedings in the Court of Appeal will continue.
