NATIONAL COMMISSION ON TELEVISION AND RADIO INTRODUCED THE PROCEDURE OF THE COMPETITION FOR TV AND RADIO BROADCAST LICENSING

On January 22-23 the National Commission on Television and Radio held discussions with the heads of Armenian broadcasters, representatives of journalistic associations on the draft of the procedure of holding competitions on TV and radio broadcast licensing, developed by the Commission.

The draft, in particular, defines the procedure for publishing an announcement about the competition, describes the main requirements put forth to the competition participants, the procedure of holding the competition and granting the license. According to the document, when defining the competition terms, the Commission takes into account the availability of publicly important political, socio-economic, cultural and other information to the audience of the broadcast area, etc. The competition terms may also include requirements on the subject matter of the TV and radio programs, their production and transmission, investment and development programs. When granting a license, the preference will be given to the TV and radio companies who have not violated the broadcasting legislation in the course of their activities, and having at least three-year experience in the production and dissemination of TV and radio programs.

The sublegal act will come into force in the coming days, once officially published. The list of frequencies to be assigned has already been introduced. The competition on licensing broadcasting on the vacant frequencies will apparently be held in February this year.
