PUBLIC TELEVISION OF ARMENIA AND "PROMETHEUS" TV COMPANY INVITE TO TAKE PART IN TV DEBATES

On February 24 the Public Television of Armenia offered the RA presidency candidates Robert Kocharian and Stepan Demirchian, running in the second round of elections, to take part in the public debates on the air of PTA. The subjects for the discussion are the foreign policy of Armenia and the peaceful resolution of Karabagh conflict; the inner political situation and the social and economic problems of Armenia.

In an interview to PTA the incumbent President Robert Kocharian stated his readiness to meet his rival in the second round on the TV air. The ultimate response from Stepan Demirchian has not ensued yet.

On February 25 a similar offer was made by private "Prometheus" TV company. The TV channel announced it is willing to provide free live air time to both the candidates and their supporters. "Prometheus" guaranteed the participation of its journalist as well as said it was ready to rebroadcast on its air the TV debates, held by other TV companies. In the opinion of "Prometheus", such "face-to-face" discussions will help the voters to make a decision for the voting day (March 5).

On February 26 on the night air of "Prometheus" the first TV debate was held, where the RA National Assembly deputy, the leader of "Constitutional Right" Union Hrant Khachatrian (a supporter of Stepan Demirchian) and RA National Assembly deputy, a member of "Dashnaktsutyun" party Kim Balayan (a supporter of Robert Kocharian) participated. On February 27 the leader of "Republic" party Albert Bazeyan (a supporter of Stepan Demirchian) and Chairman of NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Interior Affairs, the Chairman of "Dashnaktsutyun" Bureau Vahan Hovhannissian (a supporter of Robert Kocharian) came “face to face” on “Prometheus”.
