On June 8-10 in Aghveran a seminar “Karabagh Problem in the Pre-Election Rhetoric
of Armenian Politicians” was held. The event was organized by Yerevan Press
Club with the support of Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Representatives of NGOs,
media and political parties of the country took part in it.
The head of Analytical Center of Globalization and Regional Cooperation Stepan
Grigorian presented the Karabagh problem in the context of the modern realities
of the South Caucasus. The report of YPC President Boris Navasardian focused
on the regional problems in the Armenian political debate. The Editor of the
YPC Weekly Newsletter Elina Poghosbekian spoke about the role of media and journalistic
associations in Karabagh conflict. The Director of the Media Diversity Institute
Artur Papyan presented the new literary web-site www.litlab.org, established
under a joint Armenian-Azerbaijani project (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, May
25-31, 2007). The Observer of the Public Radio of Armenia Lusine Vasilian
told about the findings of the survey among parties running for seats at the
parliament to determine the coverage of urgent issues of public and political
concern in their pre-election platforms. Another study, presented by the Expert
of YPC Armen Nikoghosian, referred to the reporting of the Armenian-Azerbaijani
and Armenian-Turkish relations by Armenian press during the pre-election promotion
campaign.
