JOURNALISTS OF SHIRAK REGION AGAINST THE DRAFT LAW “ON MASS COMMUNICATION”

On February 21 on the initiative of "Asparez" Journalists’ Club a discussion of the draft law “On Mass Communication”, developed by the RA Ministry of Justice, was held in Gyumri (Shirak region). As Yerevan Press Club was told by the Chairman of the Board of

“Asparez” Journalists’ Club Levon Barseghian, representatives of all media of Shirak region, as well as correspondents of national and foreign media, working in the region, took part in the discussion. At the meeting the journalists gave a most negative feedback to the draft law and expressed their consent with the comments, made about it by the journalistic associations of the country, also by Yerevan Press Club.

A little earlier, on February 18, the head of “Asparez” addressed a letter to eight deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia from Shirak region, calling upon them to vote only against the draft law “On Mass Communication”, if it is to be introduced to the consideration of the Parliament. The address says, in particular, that the draft law is a serious attempt to retreat from democracy principles and “is the very leopard that cannot change his spots”.
