NATIONAL PRESS CLUB APPEALS TO REMOVE THE DRAFT LAW “ON MASS COMMUNICATION” FROM CIRCULATION

On February 15 the National Press Club hosted a discussion of the draft law “On Mass Communication”, developed by the RA Ministry of Justice. The journalists, leaders of media of the country, representatives of professional associations present at the discussion qualified the draft law as non-compliant with constitutional norms, democratic standards, the commitments assumed by Armenia when joining the Council of Europe.

The meeting participants joined the statement of the National Press Club, containing an appeal to remove the draft law from circulation. "The draft law ‘On Mass Communication’, developed by the Ministry of Justice and approved by the Government, is an open attempt to establish state control over the press and introduce censorship in the country. The adoption of this law will not restrict the freedom of media, but will also infringe the constitutional right of RA citizens to information ", the statement says in particular.
