“Local Media and Elections” – October 30 – November 1, 1996, Tsaghkadzor, Armenia, International Seminar, organized by the YPC under “Media and Democratic Elections” Project co-financed by the EU’s Phare and Tacis Democracy Programme. Participants (70 in number) represented the media, international organization of Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Byelorussia, the United Kingdom, the USA. Main issues discussed: specifics of media coverage of elections: media and the authorities, problem of political journalism; suffrage and elective practice; democracy and elections. The participants of the Seminar met the US Ambassador in Armenia Peter Tomsen. The main distinguishing feature of the Seminar: for the first time the representatives of media and administrative press services from regions of Armenia took part in an international seminar.

“Media and Presidential Elections” – September 13-15, 1996, Yerevan, Armenia, International Seminar, organized by the YPC under “Media and Democratic Elections” Project co-financed by the EU’s Phare and Tacis Democracy Programme. Participants (50 in number) represented the media of Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, the USA. Main issues discussed: the experience in covering pre-election campaigns in the media of Armenia, Ukraine, Georgia, Russia; the activities of the media of South Caucasus during elections.

“Elections as Mirrored by Media” – April-May, 1996, Yerevan, Armenia, two Seminars, organized by the YPC and supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Participants (40 at each seminar) represented the media and NGOs of Armenia, Russia, the USA. Main issues discussed: political struggle and political culture; experience in covering pre-election campaigns in the media of Armenia and other post-Soviet countries; international experience in covering pre-election campaigns.
